OptaGest® Frequently Asked Questions
Will my pet like the taste of OptaGest®?
OptaGest® has a slightly sweet flavor that pets enjoy. In taste test trials, dogs and cats equally found the flavor to be palatable. Your (and your pet's) satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.
My pet is taking antibiotics, would it be wise to supplement with OptaGest® during this time?
Antibiotics not only wipe out the bad bacteria, but also the good. The side effects of antibiotics may include diarrhea and constipation. OptaGest® helps replace the native bacteria that may protect against infection, toxins and allergens.
Why is the source of the enzyme, Protease, important?
Some products include Bromelain as their source of the enzyme protease. Papaya and pineapple are the main sources of Bromelain. Unfortunately they require a pH that is not commonly found in the body and do not survive the gastric juices. The acid-stable protease used in OptaGest® is pH stable and will survive the stomach's gastric juices.
Does OptaGest® require refrigeration?
No. OptaGest® should be stored in a dry area out of extreme heat and direct sun.
My pet is nursing and a friend suggested supplementing with enzymes, do you agree?
The demands placed on a nursing mother's body are tremendous. Enzyme supplementation can help ease the burden placed on the digestive system, as well as aid in the nutrient absorption that is critical for her and her offspring.
My pet is considered a "senior pet" (age 8 or older). Does this affect his digestive health?
As your pet's body ages, fewer digestive enzymes are produced and efficiency is reduced; which can result in poor digestive health.
My pet experiences excessive itching, shedding and body odor. Will OptaGest® help?
When food is not digested properly, large undigested protein molecules may cross the gut lining and initiate allergic reactions. With enzyme supplementation, food is broken down, allowing fats, carbohydrates and protein to be properly utilized.
Are all of your products made in the United States? How do you know the ingredients are pure?
Yes, all of our products are made in the United States, and all ingredients in OptaGest originate in the U.S.. In Clover uses only In Clover approved raw material suppliers. We have procedures, called Standard Operating Procedures, or SOPs, in place to ensure all of our suppliers follow the same stringent quality protocol on each ingredient before it is accepted. Additionally, as charter members of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC), we participate in a voluntary ingredient quality program where our products are pulled from the retail shelf randomly and tested. We also comply with an Adverse Event Reporting program and in our 11 year company history have never had a serious Adverse Event reported on any of our products. I can assure you that In Clover's Quality System Requirements are comprehensive and far exceed any Quality Control Systems (voluntary or otherwise) in the Pet Food Industry or the Human Dietary Supplement Industry.
